POGGIO ALLA SALA

THE HISTORY

vignePoggio alla Sala is located in the southern territory of Montepulciano where it borders on Chianciano and ancient Chiusi. A mystical and enchanted spot for the Etruscans, Poggio alla Sala, today, represents and preserves all the elements of a piece of Tuscan history.

Centuries-old oak and cypress trees, picturesque vineyards and olive groves, and small farmhouses with the stately main farmhouse and villa at the summit constitute the incomparable landscape of Poggio alla Sala.

Pietro Bonci Casuccini, an enlightened landowner of the late 18th century, made many important and innovativeagricultural changes here. His particular interest lay in the development of vineyards and olive groves, for which he received wide recognition and numerous awards, including a commendation from the Academy of Agriculturalists and a gold medal from the Royal Government of Siena. Since 1977, Luca and Gionata Gattavecchi, fourth generation wine producers from Montepulciano, have dedicated themselves with enthusiasm to cultivating those values that Poggio alla Sala has preserved for centuries.

Nestled in green tranquillity, the 19th century villa and its splendid outbuildings host a resort, wellbeing centre and restaurant, where one can rediscover the colours and flavours of the region. The magical combination of Archaeology, Agriculture, Art and Hospitality in a beautiful, natural setting capture the interest and stimulate the senses of those who come to Poggio alla Sala.
